Winter In America
In Downtown Los Angeles, life on the street has a soundtrack. I made this short film project after spending time getting to know the community living on LA’s Skid Row. These men and women struggle with homelessness, addiction, and mental illness, but also find incredible solace in music. I hoped in this film to offer a sympathetic portrait of a marginalised community that is often overlooked or ignored, and to give a glimpse of that community’s strength and resilience as well as its hardships and struggles.
The musical score for 'Winter In America' was composed by Georgia Anne Muldrow. “While scoring this film I kept thinking: these folks are incredibly brave and beautiful about who they are and are not. With every tone generated I considered the power of all of our lives taking on the shape of destiny vs. a predetermined detriment and systemic outcome”.
